MY CONCLUSION

Local TV Category, obviously it clearly shows that ABS-CBN had a better performance this year as far as anime is concerned. With Eyeshield 21 as the Gold Anime of the Year, Gundam Seed Destiny as the Silver Anime of the Year and School Rumble as the Teen/Drama Anime of the Year. GMA only got Pokemon as the Bronze Anime of the Year, GTO live as Live Action Series of the Year.

I don’t really see why die-hard GMA lovers continue to despise any anime from ABS-CBN when they clearly show good animes. C’mon, if those people actually what they claim to be, an “ANIME OTAKU” then they shouldn’t outdistance themselves just because a certain anime wasn’t aired from their “favorite” channel. There goes my rant, I’m just tired seeing people devastate a certain anime for the reason that it was aired on the other channel. Please, if you are that kind of person, please don’t call yourself an Anime Fan, your judgement are clearly biased on your fave network’s sake and not for ANIME’s sake.

Cable TV Category, I’m not one to judge since I’ve never seen any anime coming from a Cable Channel except from Cartoon Network.. e.g. Pokemon o.O

Miscellaneous Category, once again, I don’t see why Lucky Star became a phenomenon. How can random, plot-less anime could make a mark on Anime History? And not to mention, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei came in second under Japan’s New Title. Tell me!!! Where is today’s level of quality at? ROFL at Keroro Gunsou being the Most Screwed Anime Series of the year. I don’t really care though since I’ve never watch it in the first place.

Popularity Category, now this is the part where we’ll see what anime really became popular. In my early years when I could only rely on anime aired on Local TVs, I could often see some cheap collectibles on those popular anime on the streets, market, malls etc. Surprisingly, I don’t really see it often anymore, anime have ceased on the streets and markets. I could only find some collectibles around the mall and most of them were from old-school mecha animes, from Dragon Ball Z and some newer pang-masa anime like Naruto, Bleach and Death Note. I’ve always thought that Bleach will eventually be a big hit here in the Philippines just like the Yuu Yuu Hakusho days, but boy was I wrong. Probably one of the reasons why Bleach didn’t really make it big here in the Philippines was probably because most of the anime enthusiasts have already seen it on the net. But being a “pang-masa” anime, I don’t see any reason why it won’t click to the younger audience or to any fans who could only rely on Local TV Animes. Surprisingly, Naruto somehow made it’s mark for the kids. When I’d lurk around some Philippine Anime forums, Naruto was never forgotten by most and remained memorable compared to their take on Bleach… why?

Anyway, moving on to the ones who sat on the throne, I personally agree that Carlo Christopher Caling who voiced Hiruma on Eyeshield 21 being the Male Anime Dubber of the Year. No questions asked. It’s amazing how he was able to portray Hiruma’s character so well. Indeed the best one I’ve heard this year. Kudos to Marky Cielo being the Celebrity Anime Dubber of the Year, although not that impressive, he was able to improve so much in such a short period of time. And of course, no wonder why Eyeshield 21 had the best dub I’ve heard this year along, Bernie Malejana won with a whooping 43.90% compared to it’s contenders: Pocholo Gonzales (Ursula’s Kiss) with 23.58%, Roni Abario (The Law of Ueki) with 18.70% and lastly Jing Lanzona (Bleach) with 13.82%. I’ve already expected Bleach being the last. It has the most fucked-up dubbing on GMA’s pang-masa anime lineup history.

Finally, the last category, this was actually part of the Local TV Category, Cable TV Category and the Miscellaneous Category but since there was a separate video for it, I decided to also separate it here. Obviously ABS-CBN won hands down thanks to Eyeshield 21, School Rumble primarily.

  • ABS-CBN 2 67.93%
  • QTV 11 22.83%
  • GMA 7 8.70%
  • Studio 23 1.09%

See the difference on the results? ABS CBN was 3 times higher than the 2nd contender. Indeed QTV did deserve the spot, they’ve also shown some good animes although not as good as they had last year.. GMA came in 3rd with only 8.70%. Shocking! ~not! I’m not mocking GMA here and I’m not a fan of either station, just showing how bad GMA’s performance with anime, yeah, you read it right, only on anime. I don’t give a damn on those dramas and any other shows they had. Wake up GMA! Please!!!! Anyway Studio 23 came out last with 1.09%… wait? did they actually show some anime? Nuff said~
